Stump Grinding & Treatment
If you wish to have the stump left in place after a tree removal, we recommend a stump treatment to prevent new growth shoots from emerging out of the stump. If you prefer, we can also grind out the stump so you can utilize the area for other purposes.

Two ways to finish the job.
A removed tree isn't really gone until you've dealt with the stump, and you have two good options.
Stump grinding removes the stump below grade, turning it into a pile of mulch-like grindings and leaving you a spot you can actually use: lawn, garden bed, patio, or just an unobstructed yard. If you're planning to mow over it, plant in it, or build on it, grinding is the answer.
Stump treatment is the simpler path when the stump's presence doesn't bother you but its regrowth would. Many species don't accept that they've been cut down. They send up vigorous new shoots from the stump and roots, sometimes for years. A treatment stops that regrowth so the stump can quietly weather away on its own schedule.
Neither option is better in every case; it comes down to what you want the space to do. We'll lay out both, with straight pricing, and let you choose.

And our local species have opinions about staying removed: several common trees here re-sprout aggressively from stumps and roots if untreated, which is why we bring up treatment even when customers only ask about removal. If your tree hasn't come down yet, bundle the stump decision into the removal plan. It's cheaper and cleaner to handle both at once with tree removal.

Common questions
Stump grinding FAQs
How deep do you grind?
Deep enough below grade for the use you're planning. Grass over the top needs less depth than replanting or construction, so tell us what the spot is for and we'll grind accordingly.
What happens to the grindings?
They can backfill the hole (they'll settle as they decompose), be spread as mulch, or be hauled away. Your choice.
Can you grind stumps in tight spots?
Usually, yes. Access is one of the first things we evaluate; let us look before assuming a stump is unreachable.
Will the tree grow back after grinding?
Grinding removes the stump itself, but a few aggressive species can still sucker from remaining roots. Where that's a risk, we'll recommend pairing grinding with treatment. Belt and suspenders.
