Aeration serves to break up compaction in your lawn and allows air, water, and nutrients to reach the root system more easily. Irrigated lawns are especially susceptible to compaction because the water pushes the fines into the course particles and locks up the soil profile. Aeration is also the first line of defense in combating fungi in the soil.
The hidden problem
Compaction is the silent lawn killer.
You can feed and water a compacted lawn all season and still watch it struggle, because none of it is reaching the roots. Compacted soil locks up: water runs off instead of soaking in, air can't reach the root zone, and roots stop growing deeper because there's nowhere to go. The lawn thins, browns under summer stress, and becomes a fungus-friendly environment on top of it.
Core aeration is the fix. A core aerator pulls thousands of small plugs of soil out of the lawn, opening channels that let air, water, and nutrients move down to where the roots actually live. The soil loosens, roots chase the new pathways deeper, beneficial soil microorganisms get the oxygen they need, and every other treatment you invest in (fertilizer, water, seed) suddenly works better.

Lawn aeration FAQs
How often should I aerate?
For most irrigated lawns here, annually is a good rhythm; heavily used or badly compacted lawns can benefit from more. We'll recommend based on your soil, not a script.
When's the best time?
During active growth so the lawn recovers quickly. Spring and early fall are the prime windows in our climate.
What about the plugs left on the lawn?
Leave them. They break down within a few weeks and return valuable soil and microorganisms to the surface. Mowing as normal speeds it along.
Should I overseed at the same time?
If your lawn is thin or patchy, absolutely. The aeration channels give seed the best possible seed-to-soil contact. It's the highest-value pairing we offer.
